Welcome

WHAT IS
EDC?
The
EDC program is one of several
Active
Learning Opportunities
and
Exploration Beyond the Classroom experiences available to students in
the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the
University of Colorado at Boulder.
EDC presents a unique opportunity for
educating a new generation of engineers who can contribute to
the relief of the endemic problems faced by developing communities
worldwide. The program contributes to meeting the
UN Millennium
Development Goals. It
encompasses
education, research
& development, and outreach/service related to sustainable community
development.
Students interested in community service and international
development through EDC have several options
in the Civil, Environmental and
Architectural Engineering (CEAE)
Department at CU Boulder.
For graduate students,
an
EDC track is available in the
MS/PhD
program in Environmental Engineering. EDC can also be custom
designed as an emphasis area in the Building Systems
program and the Construction Engineering and
Management program. Students interested in EDC must apply through
the CEAE Department (application
process) and mention their interest in EDC
graduate studies.
For undergraduate students in CEAE,
check the
EDC Track Advising Guide for
CVEN students and faculty. Students follow a typical CVEN curriculum and study developing world
issues
in some of their socio-humanistic and technical electives.
Senior design projects emphasize sustainable
community development.
The EDC program at
CU Boulder serves as a blueprint for the education of engineers of the 21st
century who are called to play a critical role in contributing to
peace and security in an increasingly challenged world.
